Does penile prosthesis increase the penis size? Myth or true?

The size of the penis is a topic that creates a lot of discussion, often for the wrong reasons. The fanciful side of the subject leads men to believe that the bigger their penis, the more pleasure it will give to his partner.

This misguided thinking causes some to seek for penile enlargement solutions just for the sake of aesthetics and, browsing the Internet, certainly they will find ads for prosthesis that promise to achieve this goal. But were they designed to increase the penis? That's what we're going to know now.

What is the function of the penile prosthesis?

On the contrary to what many may think, the need to implant a prosthesis in the penis is not aesthetic. Although it has a positive impact on this aspect, it's real function is to offer regidity to the sexual act. That is, it is recommended for patients with problems in the functionality of the penis.

If you are experiencing severe problems with lack of erection, please contact me and we will together seek for a solution to the problem.

The lack of firmness may be related to the difficulty of keeping the penis erect or, in some rare cases, to the anatomy of the penis. The relation between the length and caliber of the penis, for example, is very important and should be studied by the doctor before any decision is made.

And the doubts about penile prosthesis do not stop there, below I’ll answer some other common men’s questions.

How does the penile implant work? Does the penis stay erect forever?

The most commonly used penile prostheses are the malleable and the inflatable and both solve the problem of erection. Some men have doubts about the appearance of the penile prosthesis and the reaction that it may cause, but do not worry, both models allow you to accommodate the penis in the resting position.

The implant is composed by two cylinders inserted into the corpus cavernosum, inner structures of the penis that are filled with blood and cause erection. They will give the necessary resistance to the penis for the sexual act.

The malleable prostheses consist of two semi-rigid silicone rods that can be manipulated to provide a targeting to the penetration. The inflatable ones work by means of a pumping in the scrotum that needs to be pressed a few times to fill up the cylinders. Is it possible to increase the size of the penis with the prosthesis?

The prosthesis does not increase, but can restore the original size of the penis. Some health problems, such as Peyronie’s disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and prostate cancer, can lead to loss of penile size. Usually these diagnoses are also linked to erectile dysfunction, which can lead to the need of the implant.

The simple placement of the prosthesis will solve the problem of erection but will not regain penile size. For this intent, the reconstruction of the penis is made on the same surgical procedure with the Egydio Technique to elongate the largest possible the size and diameter of the penis. It is the expansion of the tissues of the penis, not the prosthesis, that will bring size and caliber back. The limit of this increase is related to the characteristics of each patient, the length of the urethra and the bundle of nerves passing through the penis. So, answering the question of this post, the idea that the prosthesis enlarges the penis is a myth.

Does the prosthesis decrease the sensitivity of the penis? What about ejaculation?

No, but for this matter some cares must be taken. The implant occupies a small part of the corpus cavernosum inside the penis, where the spongy tissue is. It’s important to take care at the moment of the implant with the preservation of this tissue, since it is the one responsible for maintaining the sensitivity, the capacity for orgasm, ejaculation, besides allowing the residual filling of the penis at the moment of sexual intercourse, through sexual stimulus, of course.

When men complain about the loss of penile sensitivity, ‘cold penis’ as many call it, the prosthesis may have been improperly placed, damaging the tissues and reducing blood flow. Therefore, take great care when choosing your doctor.

How do I know if I need prosthesis?

Who should suggest whether or not you need a penile prosthesis is your urologist.

If you have an erection problem, the implant may be a solution. But it is worth remembering that there are other methods for this treatment. The evaluation of a specialist is essential in the healing process.

Read in this post some situations in which the penile prosthesis is indicated.

How will the prosthesis help me? Is the procedure safe?

The implant will bring the erection back and give the complement of firmness you need. From then on, the man will be able to have sexual relations with safety.

The surgical process is simple, however the case must be well studied to attend the particular needs of the patient. Only a andrologist will be able to define the details of the procedure by means of an accurate evaluation of the internal structures, the vascularization of the penis and the degree of erectile dysfunction.

Understand that, more important than size, the functionality of the penis is essential to provide a pleasant sexual relation for both sides.

If you are experiencing erection problems, this is certainly affecting your sex life and your psychological aspects. It may be a sign that it is more than time for you to look for medical help and solve the problem.
